About this place
Autumn is arriving across East Yorkshire, and one of the area’s most colourful seasonal attractions is getting ready to welcome visitors back.
The Pumpkin Patch at Bewholme, just outside Driffield, returns for its 2026 season with thousands of pumpkins, squashes and gourds, family activities, food, photo opportunities and a packed programme of Pick Your Own dates throughout October.
The family-run farm at Homeland Farm first opens its autumn displays and pumpkin shop on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 September, before opening daily from Saturday 3 October until Halloween, from 10:00 until 17:00. Entry and parking for the farm displays and pumpkin shop are free.
Pick your own pumpkins from the field
The main Pick Your Own events begin on 3 October and run across selected weekends and half-term dates throughout the month.
The confirmed 2026 dates are:
3, 4, 10, 11, 17, 18, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30 and 31 October.
Each Pick Your Own event runs from 10:00 until 16:00, and no advance booking is required. Admission is £2 per person, with children under two admitted free. Pumpkins are then purchased separately.
Visitors can choose from more than 45 varieties of pumpkins, gourds and squashes, ranging from traditional carving pumpkins to unusual decorative varieties and pumpkins suitable for cooking.
More than just pumpkin picking
The Pick Your Own field has developed into a much bigger autumn day out.
Activities planned for 2026 include:
- a three-acre maize maze
- pumpkin-themed games
- pumpkin carving
- a pumpkin treasure hunt
- the Golden Pumpkin challenge
- a bale chase
- photo opportunities
- the Pumpkin House
- visits from Peter Pumpkin
- Pick Your Own sunflowers and wildflowers where available.
There are also farm animals to meet, including the farm’s Golden Guernsey goats.
For families who would rather avoid carving mess at home, pumpkin carving is available on site for an additional charge, with visitors able to choose their pumpkin before decorating it at the farm.
Autumn photo opportunities
The Pumpkin Patch has become almost as well known for its displays as it has for the pumpkins themselves.
At Homeland Farm, visitors can explore large seasonal displays containing thousands of pumpkins, squashes and gourds, including the farm’s Pumpkin Mountain.
The Pick Your Own field also includes dedicated photo settings, including the Pumpkin House, designed to give families plenty of opportunities to capture autumn photographs.
Professional photography sessions can also be arranged, although photographers wishing to use the site need prior permission from the farm.
Food and drink
There will also be plenty available for visitors who work up an appetite in the field.
The farm currently lists food and drink including Neapolitan-style pizzas, seasonal pumpkin specials, hot drinks, pumpkin-spiced lattes and brownies.
It makes the experience much more than simply stopping to collect a pumpkin on the way home.
A local family business
The Pumpkin Patch has grown considerably since it first started in 2010.
The Butler family began with just a quarter of an acre and around 1,000 pumpkin plants.
Today, the family grows more than 12 acres of pumpkins across over 40 varieties, with four generations of the family involved in growing and harvesting the crop. The farm held its first Pick Your Own pumpkin event in 2016.
It is a nice example of a local agricultural business developing into a seasonal attraction while still remaining very much a working family farm.
What should you wear?
This is still a real field, so autumn weather can make conditions muddy.
The organisers recommend sturdy footwear, with wellington boots particularly useful after wet weather. Gloves can also be helpful because some pumpkin stalks can be prickly.
Pick Your Own events are weather dependent and may be affected by very poor conditions, although the farm displays and pumpkin shop remain open even if the field has to close.
It is worth checking the farm’s latest update before setting off if the weather has been particularly wet.
Is it suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs?
The field itself can become muddy, so suitability for pushchairs depends on conditions.
The organisers say pathways are wide enough for pushchairs, while the farm displays and pumpkin shop are on concrete and are easier to navigate.
Visitors with specific wheelchair-access requirements are encouraged to contact the farm beforehand so the team can advise on current conditions.
Can you bring a dog?
No.
Dogs and other pets are not permitted at either the Pick Your Own pumpkin field or the farm displays and pumpkin shop.
Assistance dogs are exempt.
Parking
Parking is free.
There is a large grass car park at the Pick Your Own field and hard-standing parking at the main farm.
Disabled parking bays are available at the pumpkin field, although visitors are advised to ask the team for directions when they arrive.
